adding patio too.

So we’ve decided to fix our front yard too, so that people don’t look up at our ugly solar panels, lol.

Getting quotes on concrete and wall work.

I originally wanted to enclose the yard with a 6foot wall, for some nice private area, but have been warned that the over-zealous Huntington Beach gubermint won’t approve any such eyesore.  Have also been warned that we need to keep a 60-40% hardscape-to-softscape ratio.

Geez, I thought I lived in a free neighborhood without an association, but I guess for the ‘good of the collective’, my property rights have been trampled.    Nice!  Oh well, hopefully we’ll be able to make something useful anyway.

Well, after contacting the city, found out that things aren’t quite as bad as I was told. You can have up to 42″ fence within 15′ of the front property line, and if back more than the 15′, the wall/fence can be 6′.
So we’re debating on what we want, at this point. I forgot to ask about the 60-40 handscape/softscape.

All very interesting! How would you use a private area in the front of the house – rather than, or in addition to, the back?
